Hi. I am Craig Whitehead and I am running for trustee in the Lethbridge Public School Division. I was a teacher in Livingstone Range School Division for 24 and a half years and a trustee for the Palliser School Division for almost three years. I bring knowledge and experience in education and governance to this election. As a trustee in Palliser I had experience in dealing with public schools as well as religious schools that had become part of the public system. To make Lethbridge Public a better school Division we need to improve on our accountability, communication and transparency. One way is to work on improving the website so that it becomes easier to find information relating to trustees and the board. Another way to do this is to develop a ward system for the School Division like the majority of school divisions already have. This would allow the public, parents, staff and students to develop a personal relationship with their trustee. The parents and the public should know which trustee to approach when they have concerns and be confident that their trustee will work on their behalf. This will improve accountability, communication and transparency. I have been trained as a facilitator for Stephen Covey’s Leader-In-Me School Program. This has helped me to develop leadership skills which I then used with students and staff as well as with the trustees and schools in the Palliser School Division. It was through this program that I learned the best result is a Win-Win solution. I believe all decisions made by the board should be a win-win solution for parents, staff, public, students and board. When it is used correctly it improves accountability, communication and transparency for all. Because of my previous experiences I believe I can bring new and innovative insights that can help develop win-win scenarios.
